At least 17 choral groups from various churches under the Church of Central African Presbyterian (CCAP) Nkhoma Synod performed during this year’s Christmas Cantata, which was held at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe on Sunday.
The event saw the choral groups from, among other districts, Lilongwe, Dowa, Salima and Dedza dishing out songs about the birth of Jesus Christ.
The music groups included Masintha Church Choir, New Jerusalem Choir, Kubwera kwa Mlengi Choir, Dedza Church Choir and Bethsaida Choir.
The synod’s moderator Reverend Masona Tembo Kaluluma challenged the choirs to embrace knowledge sharing.
“It is important for the choral groups to come together because, in so doing, we are also promoting one another by sharing the experiences,” Kaluluma said.
He called upon members of the church to use the festive season in seeking salvation.
“Let us exercise caution this festive season; let us be responsible and welcome Jesus Christ in our hearts,” Kaluluma said.
The synod’s Classical Music Society organised the event. The event was held under the theme ‘For Unto Us A Child is Born’.
The society’s chairperson Patrick Mhango said church members should expect more improvements in the way the event is conducted.
“Singing for the Lord is beautiful and it was such a good moment doing it during Christmas Cantata,” Mhango said.
