Burning Spear coming to Malawi
LEGEND—Burning Spear

Grammy Award winning legendary roots reggae singer-songwriter, vocalist and musician, Winston Rodney OD, who goes by the moniker Burning Spear will perform in the country in October this year.

The move is set to excite reggae music enthusiasts with the influential and long standing roots artists to emerge from the 1970s, set to add to the several Jamaican musicians, who have performed in the country and they include Luciano, Busy Signal, Kenyatta Hill, Morgan Heritage, Gramps Morgan, Turbulence and Everton Blender.

Sound Addicts Live confirmed the development Tuesday barely four days after staging Ku Mingoli Music Bash second edition at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.

The firm has partnered with Sound System Club to host Burning Spear on October 26 with the venue yet to be announced later.

Sound Addicts Live Director Shadreck Kalukusha, who is also a renowned sound engineer, said people should just watch the space for more information ahead of the reggae concert.

According to Kalukusha, the ‘Identity’ and ‘Not Stupid’ maker will perform in the country as part of the One People Africa tour.

“This is part of Africa wide deal. Burning Spear is coming to Africa and he will perform in a number of countries including Zambia and South Africa. As Sound Addicts Live, we have been chosen as Malawian organisers,” Kalukusha said.

He said they were excited to go on another big challenge of hosting a legendary musician having successfully executed the second edition of Ku Mingoli.

“We are releasing more information tonight (Tuesday), we already have a confirmation video from Burning Spear, this is definitely happening without fail,” he said.

According to available information, Burning Spear has won two Grammy Awards for Best Reggae Album; one at the 42nd Grammy Awards in 2000 for Calling Rastafari, and one for 2009’s Jah Is Real.

He has been nominated for a total of 12 Grammy Awards.
