Glitz, glamour as The Red Carpet Gala debuts

Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe turned into a haven of fashion, music and fun on Friday night when it played host to the inaugural The Red Carpet Gala organised by Story Club FM.

Fashion designers had the floor as they styled outfits that competed on the night and were the epitome of thoughts even on social media.

Inspired by global happenings such as Met Gala and Music Academy Awards, the red carpet event attracted the company of artists from different disciplines in a celebration of talent and contribution to the society.

Inside the venue, apart from enjoying food and drinks, artists and celebrities interacted.

Blantyre-based musician Agorosso shared music from the Shire Valley followed by Maggie Kadrum.

Despite being the first outing where the waters had to be tested, Story Club FM described the debut episode as a success.

The night also so artists and other players being decorated with certificates.

They included Ben Michael Mankhamba, Jetu, Joyce Mhango Chavula, Charles Shemu Joyah, fallen star Soldier Lucius Banda, Giddes Chalamanda and Rudo Chakwera.

The Times Group Arts Journalist Sam Banda Jnr was among those decorated on the night.

He received a certificate of recognition for his outstanding contribution to the creative industry through reporting.

Fashionista Dorothy Kingston, wife to Amapiano mayor Zeze Kingston, was unveiled as the Red Carpet Gala brand ambassador.

“I never expected it. As brand ambassador, I promise to carry out my duties professionally to elevate the Red Carpet Gala.

“We need to come together and uplift the creative industry,” she said.

Kingston, who was also on point with her stylish dressing, is expected to serve as the Red Carpet Gala ambassador for a year.

Story Club FM Director and founder Shadreck Chikoti expressed happiness with the event’s success.

“ We plan to make it an annual celebration to recognise and bring together artists. We value the arts because it contributes significantly to economic growth of the country,” Chikoti, a renowned writer, said.
