Artists from disciplines such as music, dance, poetry and visual art last Saturday united to showcase works, warming up for Christmas at the two-day Gateway Christmas Collective event in Lilongwe.
The event also turned out to be the perfect platform for celebrating art and culture.
Held at Gateway Mall in the administrative capital, the event, which was supported by Mpico, saw visual artists, spearheaded by Kaliso Art Gallery, showcasing an array of artworks including pencil drawings and sculptures in an exclusive exhibition.
Kaliso Art Gallery, which is driven by visual artist Evelyn Chisambiro, was on a mission to promote awareness on visual arts as well as offer artists an opportunity to connect with potential clients.
Lucky patrons walked away with artworks.
Chisambiro said art deserves space, hence reaching out to people through the exhibition.
“We just had to give people a treat ahead of the festive season.
“We want people to appreciate art and are happy that some patrons bought artworks today,” she said.
Chisambiro, who has been in the limelight holding sip-and-paint sessions, said the Gateway Christmas Collective also marked the beginning of their partnership with Mpico.
“There is positivity for future collaborations aimed at promoting visual arts in Lilongwe and beyond,” she said.
The music and dance side presented people with the chance to enjoy performances from Abanthu Dancers, Madalitso Band, Mitengeli Choir, Pakwathu Band and Ours Brass Band.
Madalitso Band, the duo of Yosefe Kalekeni and Yobu Maligwa, who have had exploits in Europe this year, delivered an impressive set that wowed people.
