Kukana Kuba Kasambwe Brothers Band, who left the country on Monday for their debut United States of America (USA) tour, will hold a big show Saturday.
Ahead of this gig, the group from Ndirande Township warmed up with another show Thursday at Mass Moca for 300 children from several schools around.
“They are excited to be here and they are set to raise Malawi’s flag,” Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC) Director and French Honorary Consul to Malawi, Luc Deschamps, said.
The concert tomorrow is for the general audience.
Performing in the streets and markets to earn a living in Ndirande, the ‘Check Your Sitepe’ stars, earned themselves an opportunity to perform in USA having had a number of performances at Sounds of Malawi Acoustic Session at JCC.
After their performance Saturday, the trio of lead vocalist Joseph Banda, who plays the acoustic guitar, Konzani Chikwata, who plays the banjo and Fatsani Kennedy, who plays drums, will go in the studio to record their album.
With their authentic sounds, Kasambwe which has been accompanied to USA by Deschamps is expected back next month.
Their USA tour has come courtesy of Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (Mass Moca) in partnership with Grammy award nominee producer Harlan Steinberger and Jacaranda Foundation through Sounds of Malawi Acoustic Session which is held every Thursday at JCC in Blantyre.
Steinberger said Malawi is blessed to have talented acts such as Kukana Kuba Kasambwe Brothers Band.
“We are looking forward to an exciting time tomorrow. Since their arrival, they have been fixing their instruments and then sound check and now it is time for them to get to the stage for this big show,” he said.
This is not the first time Steinberger has offered an opportunity to Malawian artists as he also teamed up with Deschamps and Marie Da Silva to bring to USA Keturah popularly known as Local Girl to record her self-titled album.
Apart from the upcoming album project for Kasambwe, Steinberger has also recorded songs of several Malawian acts, which will also be put out on the market soon.
