Visual artist Ellis Singano, who specialises in batik, is back in the limelight with a joint exhibition with legendary artist Panji Tembo.
The exhibition, titled ‘Everyday’, opens on Saturday and ends on December 20 2024 at Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC) in Blantyre.
Singano said on Wednesday that he is happy to go again with another exhibition, which he described as a continuation of the displays he has held in the past years.
“There is so much to talk about using art and so, with Panji Tembo, who is a legend when it comes to visual art, we decided to bring an exhibition, having been inspired by the everyday life of people. This is not the first time I am working with Panji Tembo,” he said.
The Mzuzu-based artist said 20 pieces have been made for the exhibition.
“I have prepared 10 batiks while Panji Tembo has also put together 10 acrylic works,” he said.
Singano said the narrative has changed now in that people are patronising exhibitions to buy artworks.
“In the past years, it was a different story but, in recent times, we have seen the numbers of people patronising exhibitions and buying artworks grow. We hope to get the same,” he said.
In July through to August, Singano also held an exhibition titled Tales of Old Malawi.
This is an exhibition that derived its works from a Malawian Writers Series book Tales of Old Malawi written by his father Ellis Singano senior and A Roscoe.
