“By highlighting homegrown talent, the event hopes to promote cultural development and pride, offering a unique experience that truly represents spirit of Malawi,” he said.

Kalukusha said they are shifting the efforts they were putting on booking international artist to Malawian artists to respect and appreciate local art by paying them reasonable prices.

‘‘We want this year’s event to be different. All resources we were investing on international artists will be invested in our local talent,’’ he said.

In reaction, Mingoli Festival fanatic, Mirriam Kefasi, said though she was skeptical she will has faith in the organisers.

“I believe they know what they are doing,” she said.

This will be the second time to hold Mingoli Festival. At least 27 local artists are expected to perform on August 3 at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
