Jazz maestro Erik Paliani and Kell Kay are some of the acts that have been billed to perform at the 2024 Entertainers of the Year Awards.

The awards event will be held at Bingu International Convention in Lilongwe on Saturday.

Awards organisers, the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), disclosed this in Lilongwe at a press briefing held yesterday.

MBC Director General George Kasakula said Paliani, Kell Kay and others had agreed to perform at the event.

“We are 100 percent ready for the awards come December 14 2024 (Saturday). For now, we are calling upon the public to continue voting for their favourite nominees. Voting will close on the day of the awards,” Kasakula said.

Paliani, of the ‘Chitukutuku’ fame, said he was happy to perform at the awards.

“This is another platform for people to enjoy jazz and there is so much we have prepared for them,” he said.

On his part, chairperson for the awards committee, Chisomo Mwamadi, said they would give out over 50 awards in different categories.

“We will only present 27 awards out of 51 awards on stage, with the remaining 24 prizes available for collection at MBC offices.

“This decision was made to ensure a concise programme that aligns with international standards and one that enhances the audiences’ experience. This will enable us to deliver a world-class event that is both entertaining and engaging,” Mwamadi said.

The awards are aimed at celebrating hard work and talent of individuals in music, television, poetry, film, sports and other fields.

Some of the categories include Secular Artist of the Year Award (Male) which will see a battle of Fadah Moti, Eli Njuchi and Driemo whereas the Secular Artist of the Year (female) has Jetu, Emmie Deebo and Temwah.
