In an exciting announcement, Ecobank Malawi has appointed the dynamic and award-winning musician Temwah Gondwe, known to her fans simply as Temwah, as the 2024 Ecobank Day Ambassador. With her powerful voice and passion for community empowerment, Temwah is set to lead the bank’s initiative Transforming Africa Through Education, focusing on the theme Igniting Learning with AI.

This year marks the second installment of Ecobank’s three-year educational initiative, launched during the bank’s 10th anniversary celebrations last year. The focus for 2024 is on harnessing the transformative power of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance literacy and numeracy skills among primary school learners across Malawi.

Temwah isn’t just a musical sensation; she’s also a dedicated advocate for children’s rights and education. As the founder of the He Matters Foundation and a UNICEF #EndCorporalPunishment Champion, she has made significant strides in promoting safe learning environments.

“We’re thrilled to have Temwah on board,” said Tidzi Chalamba, Ecobank Malawi’s Head of Brand, Marketing & Corporate Communications. “Her commitment to community and education aligns perfectly with our mission to create a better Africa through innovation.”

Excited about her new role, Temwah expressed, “It’s an honor to serve as the 2024 Ecobank Day Ambassador. The integration of AI in education has the potential to revolutionize learning, particularly in enhancing literacy and numeracy. I can’t wait to positively impact young learners across the country!”

Ecobank Day, celebrated across 33 African countries, is dedicated to giving back to communities. This year’s festivities will take place on October 19, with a spotlight on how AI can drive educational development.

As the ambassador, Temwah will lead various initiatives to raise awareness about the critical role of AI in education, including support for the BEFIT project, which aims to boost literacy and numeracy skills for children in rural areas.

With Temwah at the helm, Ecobank Day promises to be a transformative event, uniting music, innovation, and advocacy to pave the way for a brighter future for Malawian youth. This collaboration not only amplifies Temwah’s impact on community development but also emphasizes the importance of technology in shaping the next generation of learners.
