Umodzi concert lights Lilongwe

Three gifted artists namely Lulu, Patience Namadingo and Keturah shared the stage on Sunday in a rare showdown at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.

Dubbed Umodzi Music Concert, the show pulled a good patronage.

The concert grossed enough publicity through social media where, at one time, Namadingo came out to demand millions from organisers.

Some quarters felt it was a plank.

Keturah, popularly known as Local Girl, was the first to hit the stage and served a number of songs.

They included ‘Achisale’ and ‘Make Dele’.

With a self-titled album, which she recorded in United States of America, to her acclaim, Keturah made sure she raised the tempo of the show.

There were no dull moments in her set as the Blantyre-based musician set the tone for a memorable Sunday night.

Lulu, a singer, guitarist and producer, was next.

With his Mathumela Band, he continued from where Keturah had left off.

With his usual music stamina, Lulu kept the stage electric, offering a non-stop performance for close to an hour.

On his itinerary, the versatile artist did not skip tracks such as ‘Ndakudziwa’, ‘Pemphero’ and ‘Mwachenjera Darling’.

“It is always exciting to perform to audiences and give them a dosage of our music. It is a special night when I have also managed to share the stage with Patience Namadingo and Keturah,” he said.

Namadingo, who also starred at the Piano Fest in Blantyre in the early hours of Sunday, was the last to perform.

He, too, served a tasty dish of music.

Some of the songs that Namadingo dished out included ‘Mumapemphero’, ‘Nge’, ‘Mapulani’, ‘Maury’, and ‘Sakaka’.
