Veteran fiction and non-fiction writer Okomaatani Aipira has donated four books he authored to The Society of Malawi Journal library.
He said that the move was part of efforts premised on enriching the country’s literary experience.
The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences retired academician, who presented the books to the society’s librarian Cecilia Chombo in Blantyre on Friday, said he wanted Malawians and foreign nationals who appreciate the work of writers to easily find the work and use it for various purposes.
The books in question are Malawi’s Presidents, Leadership Analysis, Malawi Takes Off- Priorities in Action, Nankumba Peninsula Heritage Trail and Biography of Elizabeth Aipira-A Life of Service to the Nation.
“I, as a regular user of the library, have been inspired by The Society of Malawi Journal library’s objectives of promoting interest in literary, historical and scientific matters among individuals of all races in Malawi.
“The visitors’ book bears testimony to the fulfilment of this objective,” said the Mangochi West Constituency former legislator, who served from 2009 to 2014.
Aipira, whose books are also available in Central Bookshop, Chichiri Shopping Centre, in Blantyre said he hoped that people of all age groups would take interest in reading to enrich their lived experiences.
When receiving the books, Chombo hailed Aipira for the gesture.
