On May 25, music lovers were made to wait in vain for a highly anticipated appearance by South African amapiano star Young Stunna.
On the day, at Moneymen Club Ground in Blantyre, the mood was expectant and buzzing. But as it turned out, the Adiwele star was a no-show. His Malawian fans were hugely disappointed, but it appears it was something that concerned him as well.
On Saturday, Young Stunna turned up at Scalla’s Café in Blantyre and set the record straight. Fun-seekers arrived at the venue from as early as 6pm eager to sample what the South African artist up his sleeve.
The venue was beautifully set, the lighting was on point and it provided a heavenly feel. A couple of up-and-coming artists took turns to warm up the stage and set the mood.
Fada Moti entertained with his amapiano beats, just like the other youthful urban brigade.
Tuno wore a glittering white outfit and her stay on stage was equally glowing. She did songs such as Love Me which she collaborated with Zonke Too Fresh. The duo’s performance was captivating.
As the night wore on, things got heated up as Eli Njuchi came on stage and got things to a higher level. With time, the music protégé has matured. His growth was evident in both his delivery and approach. His emotional rendition of the song Kumalo a Zii was the pinnacle of his stay on stage.
Kell Kay is loved and that affection was demonstrated by his fans when he got on stage. Like he has done on numerous occasions, he appeared at ease and well in control of affairs. A fight in the audience disturbed him and he momentarily halted his performance as he called on security to come and calm the situation.
But he quickly reorganised himself and got things up and running again. His job was made easy as the audience provided a ready back up on almost all his songs.
Then, it was the turn of local amapiano king Zeze Kingston to light up things. His ‘Zeze we wanna party’ slogan was sounded time and again and the audience roared to it.
Finally, the moment came and Young Stunna was ushered on stage by a large group of stewards. He made amends for his initial disappointment. During his stay on stage he entertained the audience with a number of his numerous hits.
Young Stunna showed exceptional energy and the long hours people spent waiting for his appearance seemed worth it. When he stepped off the stage around 4am, he had fully made amends for his Malawian fans.
