Award-winning musician Zeze Kingston on Friday expanded his footprint in the creative arena when he launched his own record label, Money Making Music, at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.

The ‘Kusangalala’ star said Money Making Music was here to stay and ready to promote local music talent.

“This label will facilitate the growth of the music industry. We have hit the ground running,” the artist, elegantly clad in a black suit, said.

Zeze Kingston, who was in the company of wife Dorothy, a fashionista and entrepreneur, said they would create connections and opportunities for artists.

“There is a lot of potential that needs nurturing and, with this brand, we want to create room for more local talent,” the artist, who has christened himself Mayor of Amapiano, said.

His wife emphasised the label’s commitment to local artists’ empowerment. Assigned as Public Relations and Events Manager, Dorothy said their goal was to provide a platform where local talent could thrive and match international standards.

“With my skills, I aim to make this record label impactful and bring change to the music industry,” she said. At the launch of the record label, Zeze Kingston unveiled his international brand manager James Makunje and management team.

He also unveiled three signed artists namely Malimba Music, NaeRae and En Vee.

Makunje, who has supported other artists in their music careers including working with Patience Namadingo, expressed optimism about the label’s future.

“Growth is here. We are poised for greatness and our collaborations will shake the music industry, especially for Zeze, and artists already signed and those to be signed,” he said.

The manager then announced plans for international shows and collaborations, including attending a festival in three weeks.

One of the signed artists NaeRae, a 21-year-old whose real name is Nagawa Gwala, said Money Making Music would promote her music with a new EP coming up.

“We are grateful for this opportunity and we look forward to making impactful music,” NaeRae said.
