Balaka- based group – Alleluya Band returns home later this month from their annual tour of Italy where they are set to hold 52 shows in total.
The group’s leader Paul Subili, who has made several trips to Italy alongside Coss Chiwalo, who is also part of the team this year, said on Thursday that they have so far held 44 shows and that they were remaining with eight.
“It has been an exciting tour once again of course this year climate change has affected us. In the past years, this period is always dry and hot but we have experienced rains in other days,” Subili said.
He cited Bergamo, a place where they are based as experiencing rains.
Subili also said that apart from offering entertainment, the group has managed to raise resources through performances for projects at Andiamo.
“As artists, we are there not only to entertain but also play a role in bringing about change. In this case, we are also using music to raise funds for supporting Comfort Hospital in Balaka which offers free services to children and women,” he said.
Through the tour, Subili also said that they have managed to build relationships.
“We have so far organisations like Orizzonte Malawi Onlus which works hand in hand with us to collect some of the resources that we are given and then dispatch them home. We also have Andiamo Trust which makes sure that it connects with other firms in Italy,” he said. Apart from Bergamo, Alleluya Band has also performed in Rome.
