Albums no longer Fashionable—Nyandoro

Veteran musician Stanley Nyandoro Mthenga, who is from the Shire Valley and is better known for his Sena Jive vibes, has resurfaced with what he describes as his last album.

Titled Chilungamo (Truth), the nine-track project is his sixth, following up on Crocodile Tears (1999), Nyakabusa (2000), Mtchona (2001), Moto Mdambo (2004) and No Name (2014).

He said yesterday that the music scene had changed and that albums were no longer trendy, hence coming out with his last project.

“It is not that I am leaving my music craft but, rather, just repositioning myself to fit the current scenery. Music is very tough these days and, so, I will be releasing singles,” Mthenga said.

Mthenga, who was in the limelight with songs such as ‘Sena Jive’ and ‘Wako Ndi Wako’, said he would remain in his lane, in terms of the music genre.

“The current crop of artists is doing well and is very active. Now you are talking about genres such as Amapiano ruling the market but this is not a cause for worry for me. I do my own music from the Shire Valley and it will remain like that,” he said.

Based in Lilongwe, the guitar and Sansi player said he was targeting his niche and that his music was for everyone.

“Everything is done and, for now, I am just waiting for online release, which will be done during the first week of March. It will be on Spotify and other platforms and, of course, for those that may want CDs, it will also be available in that format,” Mthenga said.

Apart from the title track, the album is wrapped with songs such as ‘Neba’, ‘Amati Ndani’, ‘Susochera’, ‘Ndempeza Wanga’, ‘Nsanje’ and ‘Leka Upoka’.

“I am passionate about music and when I work on it, I put out my all and this is what I have done to this album; same work rate and the like,” he said.
