Copyright Society of Malawi (Cosoma) has made the fifth call for proposals for Copyright Fund barely two weeks after it disbursed K115,304,512 to 15 recipients in the fourth call.
This is another opportunity for creatives to get grants for projects to help propel the arts the sector.
Copyright Fund Manager Blessings Botha Wednesday called upon players in the creative sector to send impactful proposals on wide ranging ideas to help bring about change the sector as well as develop the country.
“The objective of this fund is to support projects or activities aimed to develop capacity, quality and diversity of the copyright industry, enhance public education and awareness on copyright matters, assist in anti-piracy campaigns as well as contribute towards conserving, protecting and promoting Malawi culture within the copyright works,” Botha said.
He said the applications will be evaluated in accordance with the criteria determined by the Copyright Fund Committee.
According to the Copyright Fund Committee, the deadline for submissions is November 25 2024.
The budget for national projects is a maximum of K15 million whereas for district projects, the maximum is K10 million with community projects’ maximum being K5 million.
Copyright Fund Committee Chairperson Christopher Magomero said recently that they were committed to fostering innovation among members of Cosoma, creative organisations, education institutions and individuals by providing financial support for projects that enrich the artistic landscape.
Copyright Fund, established by the government under Section 98 of the Copyright Act of 2016, aims to promote creativity, enhance artistic skills and preserve cultural heritage.
Since its inception in 2022, the fund has disbursed approximately K387,304,512 to 59 successful applicants.
The projects that have been executed are in t h e categories of publishing, heritage preservation, performing arts and visual arts.
Some of the beneficiaries of the fourth call included Musicians Union of Malawi, musicians Tay Grin, Anthony Makondetsa, Mable Lwanda, Martha Mituka and Kelvin Maigwa and poet Luckier Chikopa.
The others are Neptune Productions creators of Mfumukazi series, Solomonic Peacocks, Light of Youth Creative Organisation and Sungani Zakwathu Cultural Heritage Association.
