The 2024 Entertainers of the Year (EOY) Awards will be held at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe on December 14.

Spearheaded by Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), Entertainers of the Year Awards comes to the fold, having run successfully last year by decorating artists in different categories.

MBC Director General George Kasakula made the announcement at a press conference held in Blantyre yesterday.

Kasakula underscored the importance of the awards to the creative sector in the country, saying it had contributed immensely to national development efforts.

“The 2024 edition will feature 50 individual awards across eight diverse categories. This is our way of recognising the immense talent and hard work of artists across the country,” Kasakula said.

He maintained that the awards were transparent.

He then called upon people to take their time to nominate their favourite artists by sending an SMS with the word EOY to 364 for a nominal fee of K50.

“Or they can visit the official awards site at eoy.mbc.mw to submit nominations online,” Kasakula said.

Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) General Secretary Tonney Chitimatima commended MBC’s support to the creative industry.

Chitimatima noted that initiatives such as EOY awards played a crucial role in fostering talent.

“The EOY awards not only celebrate the success of artists but also provide a platform that inspires emerging talent to pursue their passion with renewed energy,” Chitimatima said.

Having been out of the limelight for some time, MBC resumed holding the awards last year.

Last year’s winners included Zeze Kingston, Stevie Wazisomo Muliya and Ndirande Anglican Voices.
