South African gospel outfit Joyous Celebration is expected to perform at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe on December 20 in a Mega Gospel Concert.
Known for their dynamic performances and inspirational music, Joyous Celebration, which has inspired gospel artists in the country, will be performing in Malawi for the first time.
The concert, organised by Psalm Celebrations, is aimed at uplifting gospel music.
Chief event organiser Godfrey Zulu said on Tuesday all was set for the Mega Gospel Concert, which will also set the tone for the festive season.
“This is a unique blend of entertainment and charity, aiming to uplift the community both spiritually and materially while raising funds for charity activities.
“With the support of Joyous Celebration and a detailed strategic plan, Psalm Celebration is committed to making this event a resounding success,” Zulu said.
As headliners, Joyous Celebration will share the stage with the country’s acts Psalmist Zulu, Great Angels Choir and Ndirande Anglican Voices.
The gospel group wrote on their social media page recently that they were thrilled to announce their first ever visit to Malawi.
“We can’t wait to share our music—both new and classic songs—with our Malawian family. We are expecting an amazing time of praise, worship and fellowship in the presence of the Lord,” the group said.
Meanwhile, Joyous Celebration manager Boniswa Mbomba and production manager Thabo Kgabo are in the country for a site visit.
“The anticipation is quite overwhelming; people know that we are coming. The excitement is high and we are looking forward to a great time.
“The venue is perfect and beautiful and it can hold our show. The stage is big enough and the hospitality [is great, too],” Mbomba said.
She said they had also managed to meet members of the technical team to brainstorm on all the requirements to execute a good show.
“This is the first time we will be performing in Malawi and we are looking forward to making history,” Mbomba said.
Joyous Celebration was formed by Mthunzi Namba, Jabu Hlongwane and Lindelani Mkhize in 1994.
The group produces contemporary local and international gospel music.
Their debut studio album Joyous Celebration Volume 9 (2005) became their best-selling album and was certified as platinum in South Africa.
