After ushering in a National Executive Committee (Nec) led by renowned poet Robert Chiwamba recently, Poetry Association of Malawi (Pam) has welcomed chapter committees.
The chapter committees were put in office over the weekend following elections which were held virtually. For the Northern Region chapter, the chairperson is Yona Gondwe, with Alick Harawa as vice. The other key members of the committee are Cathreen Lwesya (secretary), Luka Kamanga (vice secretary) and Isaac Manda (treasurer).
The Southern Region chapter is being headed by ‘Mamuna Ndi Mbalame’ creator Luckier Chikopa whereas her vice is Rajab Anusa. Other members of the committee are Grant Rodi (secretary), Aisha Samson (vice secretary) and Darlington Sally (treasurer). The Central Region chapter has seen Patwell Phiri assuming the position of chairperson whereas his vice is Wellington Chitsanya.
Other members of the committee are Gideon Thole (secretary) and Catherine Lazaro (treasurer). The committees for the three chapters also have directors of women affairs, publicity and fundraising. Chiwamba said yesterday they were happy to have the committees in place.
“This means that the structures are up to date from region to national levels. According to our constitution, the National Executive Committee must facilitate chapter elections within two months of being elected. We have managed to undertake this important exercise,” he said.
The Pam leader then appealed to the corporate world to support them whenever they are approached.
“We have greater plans and we hope that, through collaboration, we will make it,” Chiwamba said.
