Musician Saint left the country yesterday for Berlin, Germany, to perform at the Malawi at 60 gathering on Friday.
This will be the first time for the ‘Una’ star to perform in Germany.
“I have been invited to perform at this event courtesy of the Malawi Embassy in Germany, where they are celebrating Malawi’s 60 years of independence. They are also celebrating 60 years of a relationship between Malawi and Germany,” Saint real name Yamikani Chikwawe said.
He said the event will give an opportunity to Malawi to showcase different things including music.
“This is about Malawi and as an artist, we geared to show what Malawi is all about. It is rare to get such opportunities. I am going there to entertain people and at the same time through my talent promote Malawi’s tourism,” Saint said.
He said performing in Germany is also part of exporting Malawi’s music as well as strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Madalitso Band, the duo of Babatoni player Yobu Maligwa and acoustic guitar star Yosefe Kalekeni, returned home from their Europe tour on Tuesday.
The group held over 40 shows in Europe and ended their tour with three gigs in Paris, France.
“We are excited to be back. It has been one show after the other but we managed to raise Malawi’s flag once again,” the group’s tour manager Neil Nayar said.
He said they will stay for a few weeks before heading back to Europe on October 22 2024 for a performance at Womex.
The group left for their seventh Europe tour in July this year.
Madalitso Band, from the outskirts of Mtandire in Lilongwe, has also had a stint performing at MTN Bushfire Festival this year.
Apart from France, the group starred in the United Kingdom and Germany.
Last year, Madalitso Band successfully flew Malawi’s flag when it went on a world tour starting off in Europe before debuting in USA, where they held over 20 gigs.
Madalitso Band has albums such as Fungo La Nyemba and Wasalala to their credit.
