Tay Grin off to UK

Rapper Tay Grin left the country on Thursday for Birmingham, the United Kingdom, where he is set to perform at the ZaMalawi event.

His UK tour comes barely a week after he also flew Malawi’s flag in Algeria alongside renowned poet Q Malewezi, who is also special adviser to President Lazarus Chakwera on creative industries, at the 2024 Canex Wknd in Algeria.

The artist said yesterday before departure that he was excited to be performing at ZaMalawi event, a celebration of Malawian culture.

“This event is a celebration of Malawian culture, bringing the community together through music and entertainment. This performance means a lot to me because it is a chance to connect with the Malawian diaspora, share our culture as well as celebrate our roots,” Tay Grin said.

The artist, popularly known as Nyau King, has travelled to the United Kingdom with three members, who will showcase Gule Wamkulu as part of Tay Grin’s set.

“I value culture; our culture is so special and rich and this is why I always make sure that whenever opportunities to go with my team are there, I do travel with them and this is what I have done,” he said.

The ‘2 by 2’ star said he would make the most of the opportunity to engage with fans and soak in the experience.

Meanwhile, Madalitso Band, the duo of Yobu Maligwa and Yosefe Kalekeni, is expected to perform at the Worldwide Music Expo (Womex) in Manchester, the United Kingdom, tomorrow.

Madalitso Band is the only group from Malawi performing at the festival, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

Womex, which has over the years featured top artists, started on Wednesday and ends on Sunday.

Sixty one acts from 44 countries will perform at seven stages.
