Zathu Band former member Theresa Phondo has signed an exclusive distribution deal with ONErpm, a global music distribution platform known for supporting artists with reach, marketing and monetisation.
The Lilongwe-based musician, who has been nominated in the 2024 Maso Awards in the category of Best Artist of the Year (Female), said yesterday that the deal entails that she would receive significant benefits for her music.
“This partnership provides an increased global reach and visibility, enhanced marketing support and improved monetisation opportunities,” she said.
Phondo added that the deal positions her alongside other well-known artists such as Zlatan, Chike and Timaya Skales, potentially opening doors for greater collaboration and access to bigger audiences.
“This move will, therefore, accelerate my career growth by expanding my fan base and boosting my recognition on a global scale,” she said.
Phondo said she was excited about the deal in that she was passionate about spreading the gospel to the ends of the earth “just as Jesus commanded us”.
“I am grateful that God is expanding my boundaries, allowing me to continue sharing my testimony and being His witness through music. It is truly an honour,” she said.
The artist has been thriving in recent times, releasing songs such as ‘Yewo’ and ‘Testimony, which earned her playlist placement on Spotify’s African Gospel Hits and Radar Africa editorial playlists—reaching over 170,000 listeners.
She also garnered 108,000 listeners on Spotify, making her the second most streamed artist in the country.
Phondo also made reaps with her track ‘Blessings’, which has been featured by celebrities such as Megan Good, Gabrielle Union and Michelle William’s of Destiny’s Child, making it the most streamed Malawian song on Spotify.
Without no album yet, the singer has a number of singles on the market and they include ‘Assurance’, ‘Victory’, ‘Zambezi’, ‘Right Here’, ‘You’ and ‘Saviour’.
