Legendary musician Sir Paul Banda, who is currently undergoing dialysis for kidney problem at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe, has once again said he misses the stage to entertain people with his music.
The ‘Malilime’ star a brother to iconic musician Soldier Lucius Banda has been out of the stage for some time since being diagnosed with kidney problem.
Last year the artist managed to perform for a short time during a show at Robin’s Park in Blantyre which was organised by God Is My Answer (Godima).
During the event, the musician was decorated with a trophy and K1 million for his immense contribution to the development of music in the country.
“Music has been a part of me and I am so passionate about it but now I cannot do it because of the situation I am in. I hope to come back once my health improves,” he said on Wednesday.
Sir Paul then took time out to thank Malawians for the support they continue to give him in cash or kind.
“I will never stop saying thank you to all Malawians for the help they render to me. They have always come to my aid and I am grateful,” he said.
The artist is currently undergoing dialysis at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe having been transferred from Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre where the reverse osmosis machine in the water treatment room developed a fault leading to five dialysis machines non-functional.
Sir Paul has since said some well-wishers have pledged to support him to go for a kidney transplant once a donor has been found.
“The well-wishers are ready to do that but now I need to find a kidney donor so as to undergo this kidney transplant,” he said.
Having made a call through Alleluya Band leader Paul Subili that he was in need of a kidney donor, Sir Paul indicated yesterday that over 30 people had come forward.
“I would not be able to divulge more information on that because the issue will also require doctors to do their assessments especially for compatibility and other issues,” he said.
Last year Sir Paul also got over K14 million raised through an initiative by renowned writer and social media influencer Stanley Onjezani Kenani for him to access dialysis.
Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) Board Chairperson Wycliffe Chimwendo last year also called upon the government to make efforts to have the legendary musician go for a kidney transplant in India describing Sir Paul as a treasure for the country.
