MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) 2024 graduate Beatus Msamange said on Tuesday that he is set to create more movies as part of his input to the film industry.
This follows the release of his film titled True or False on January 1 2025 which was shot three years ago.
“I believe this is the foundation of more things to come from me. True or False was shot before I made it to the MultiChoice Talent Factory and so, I would not say it has the skills gained from there but it helped me get this opportunity,” Msamange said.
Despite delaying the release of the film which movie lovers can access on YouTube, Msamange said the themes and storyline in True or False are still relevant.
“We would have loved to host a physical premiere for the film but due to shortage of funds, we opted for YouTube. We are hoping that in return, it will gain us a following and audience which we can utilise for the next film,” he said.
The film delves into the complexities of truth, betrayal and redemption following the story of Mbumba Denje, a young superstar attempting a career comeback through a prerecorded interview orchestrated by her mother and hosted by her ex-boyfriend.
The interview quickly unravels into chaos, exposing long-buried family secrets and forcing characters to grapple with devastating truths.
Produced by Spy Msiska and Msamange, who also directed the film, True or False stars Dipolathu Katimba and Brenda Mselu, who are now based in the United States of America (USA).
“Dipo and Brenda worked on the movie before they left for USA. This film is more than just entertainment and I am happy with the response that it has got so far,” he said.
The other actors in the film are Rudo Mkukupa Chakwera, Pleasant Theodore Banda, Brave Chirwa, Edwin Chonde, Joyce Mhango Chavula, Catherine Kawawa, Thoko Kamenya, Zahir and Kelvin Chimpokosera.
Msamange has since said that the film industry is making steady progress and that it is shaping up well.
“There is hope, but there is a lot of work to be done. We need to do a lot in terms of capacity building so we are able to compete on the international market. We also need better distribution networks and streams,” he said.
